Delete your Tuton account
Last updated: July 2, 2026
Tuton (operated by Tuton Group, "we," "our," or "us") lets you request deletion of your account and the personal data we hold about you at any time. This page explains how to do it, what gets removed, and what we're required to keep.
How to request deletion
Option 1 — From inside the app (recommended)
- Sign in at tuton.io/login.
- Open Settings → Account.
- Scroll to the Danger zone at the bottom of the page.
- Click Request account deletion, optionally tell us why you're leaving, type the confirmation phrase, and confirm.
- You'll be signed out immediately and your account will be marked for deletion.
Option 2 — By email
If you can't access your account, email from the address associated with the account. Include the words "delete my account" in the subject line. We'll verify ownership and process the request within 7 business days.
What happens after you request deletion
- Immediately: Your account is locked. You can no longer sign in to the web app or mobile app, and your public tutor profile (if any) is hidden from search.
- Within 90 days: Your data is retained in case you change your mind — deletion requests are sometimes made by mistake. Email from the account's address at any point in this window and we'll restore your account exactly as it was.
- After 90 days: Your account is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
What data is deleted
Once the deletion is processed, your account is gone for good: your login (including any linked Google or Apple sign-in), your profile, and the personal data and content associated with your account are permanently removed from our systems. If you sign up again later, you start from a brand-new account.
What data we keep, and for how long
A small amount of data is retained after deletion because we're legally required to keep it or because removing it would harm other users:
- Invoices and payment records: retained for up to 7 years to meet tax and accounting requirements. Stripe holds the underlying payment data under its own retention policy.
- Aggregate, anonymous analytics:usage statistics that no longer identify you (e.g. "X lessons were taught last month") are kept indefinitely.
- Security logs: sign-in attempts and audit logs that may contain your former IP address or email are kept for up to 90 days, then purged.
- Backups: encrypted backups are retained on a rolling 30-day cycle. Deleted data is overwritten as backups age out.
- Messages sent to other users: messages you sent to another tutor or student remain visible to that recipient, but with your identifying information removed.
Requesting deletion of specific data
If you want to remove specific data without deleting your whole account, you can do most of it yourself from inside the app — delete students, lessons, vocabulary lists, or uploaded files individually. For anything you can't remove yourself, email and we'll handle it within 7 business days.
