    In the news: The story

Read a 106-word news story: A Long Goodbye from Longmeadow

Monty Don has said goodbye as the presenter of Gardeners' World, after more than 20 years on the series. His final episode was filmed at Longmeadow, the garden where the programme has been based for 16 years. In his farewell, Don thanked his audience and said sharing his garden had been a privilege. He will still appear at next year's Chelsea Flower Show and in two winter programmes, but the BBC has not named his successor. Don said it was time for a change, and a special programme will look back at his years on the show. He also wished viewers well with their own gardens.
