Read a 95-word news story: German Youth Take Their Concerns to the Streets
Thousands of young people joined demonstrations in German cities over issues including the cost of living, cuts to public spending and schools they say are underfunded. Some also spoke against compulsory military service. Many marches were peaceful during the day, but clashes with police were reported later in several cities. In Frankfurt, police said some shops were damaged and there was looting. The protests were organised by a youth campaign group, and similar youth-led events took place in France. The events have brought attention to young people’s concerns about public services, money and their future.
